The “340B Program” was established by the government in 1992 to provide outpatient drugs to certain covered entities for a pre-determined ceiling price. Drug manufacturing companies provide pharmaceuticals to the facilities at a reduced price. These covered entities are Health Resources and Service Administration grantees, Federally Qualified Health Centers, family planning clinics, and other facilities providing medical services to under-served areas. The point of the program is to give everyone access to the proper medication, even if it is not affordable to the patient.
